I have a switch with ipmitool configured on it to talk to 4 blades. I didn’t do any of the initial setup and actually have never used ipmi before until asked to troubleshoot why things aren’t working as expected.3 of the 4 blades respond correctly toipmitool -C 1 -I lanplus -H -U -P -k gkey sol activatethe last one gives an error message: Error: Unable to establish IPMI v2 / RMCP+ session. Using -v with the command gives further ‘enlightenment’ RAKP 2 message indicates an error: unauthorized name using –v gives more information but nothing that seems to provide any additional insight into the issue (could just be me not knowing what I am looking at) I thought that the user name/password was put on the impi server, in this case the switch.

Johnm, I noticed that you are using the SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O. I have a 20 disk (plus parity) system right now using a Supermicro X8SIL, but since the hurricane the onboard NICs have gone flaky on me (and they never ran all that well in the first place). So what I am looking for now is a motherboard to replace the X8SIL. Jan 30, 2015 With the new Java 8 rolled out, it has been discovered that it can block access to SuperMicro IPMI interfaces, if it doesn’t meet the minimum security requirements. Below are the steps that can be taken to fix this. This solution should work for Windows 7 64bit, Windows 7 32bit, Windows 8 64bit, and Windows 8 32bit.
But as I tried to use commands like user summary and user list, it seems that the query is actually being directed to the target i.e. But I can’t find any instruction on how to create the user and when I log into each of the blades directly it doesn’t appear that ipmi is installed.
Can any one give me any ideas of what I need to look at to figure out why the one blade is acting differently than the others?
